All version 7 license keys require the hostname information of the server/node where Infrared360 is installed and running. To provide this information, bring up a command prompt on the server/node where Infrared360 is installed, and issue the command "hostname". This information can also be found by going to Setup>About and clicking on the Server Info tab while accessing Infrared360. We will require screenshots of this information, to confirm the actual and current hostname, for all new and upcoming license key renewals.
In a cloud or automated environment, Rehydration is the process of periodically destroying an old server and replacing it with a new one. This is done to ensure the server hasn't been corrupted by manual changes, to apply the latest security patches, or to clear out "junk" files that accumulate over time. The hostnames change because the existing server is not being updated, it is being deleted and a new server is created. Many cloud providers (e.g., AWS or Azure) assign a new, random ID or hostname to a new instance unless the IaC (Infrastructure as Code) is specifically written to "reserve" or re-use the old name.
Infrared360 v7.1x and forward does not require a static hostname for licensing or communication. It requires a "portion" of the host named to be static. Infrared360 does a “contains” comparison between the server hostname and what is defined in the license. See the example below –
Server hostname
myserver1.org
myserver2.org
myserver3.org
The license can be setup to accept 'myserver' and will be valid for all 3 server hosts specified above. This also applies to IP addresses. Both hosts and IP addresses are strings and Infrared360 does a 'contains' match for both situations.
